The Mechanical Maintenance Technician plays a key role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all production machinery, equipment, and site facilities. Through proactive maintenance, rapid fault diagnosis, and effective repair, this position minimises downtime, supports manufacturing performance, and contributes to overall operational excellence

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Execute Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) on all site machinery and infrastructure.
  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns, carrying out effective repairs to minimise downtime.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical issues impacting production efficiency.
  • Collaborate with the Manufacturing Systems Engineering team and other departments to improve equipment reliability and resolve complex faults.
  • Ensure strict compliance with health, safety, and site operating procedures.
  • Action tasks arising from the Corrective Action Report (CAR) system.
  • Maintain clear communication with relevant departments regarding maintenance schedules, progress updates, and machine handovers.
  • Assist with commissioning, upgrades, and modifications of machinery and site facilities.
  • Support the setup and configuration of site utilities and infrastructure.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance work, spare parts usage, and fault analysis.
  • Actively contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the site.

The Ideal Candidate

Academic Qualifications

  • Time-served apprenticeship with a formal engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent).

Experience & Skills

  • Proven experience in machinery and facilities maintenance within a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient in using Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and other maintenance-related software.
  • Strong mechanical fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Clear and effective communication abilities.
  • Confident in making quick, informed decisions in urgent situations.
  • Excellent attention to detail with a methodical approach to work.
  • Able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Practical, hands-on experience with equipment design, build, and modification.
  • Strong commitment to safe working practices and compliance with safety regulations.

This position is based on-site at Bridgwater. Trelleborg must ensure that anyone we’re looking to employ is legally allowed to work in the UK before their employment begins.
