The Stations team within WSP’s Rail business are actively seeking a Principal / Associate Mechanical Engineer to lead teams delivering mechanical building services designs for Railway Stations and other Railway Buildings across the UK and around the world.

A little more about your role…

  1. Producing and supervising high quality, industry leading building designs
  2. Realising WSP’s and our client net zero carbon commitments and ambitions by delivering highly sustainable, low carbon design.
  3. Becoming part of the wider WSP business by sharing knowledge and technical skills with colleagues from around the globe.
  4. Working in an environment that allows you to use your own initiative with support from specific specialist experience to deliver high-quality engineering solutions
  5. Supervising the completion of detailed designs and supervising the work of others in this function, whilst maximising joint learning opportunities for the wider business
  6. Interpreting client specification requirements in the development of designs
  7. Designing of pipework including heating, cooling, hot and cold water systems
  8. Designing of ventilation systems including general ventilation systems
  9. Selecting of plant and equipment items based upon designs produced including but not limited to Air Handling Units, Fans, Pumps, Pressurisation Units, Boilers, Heat emitters, Chillers, Ductwork and ductwork ancillaries, Pipework and pipework ancillaries
  10. Having a detailed working knowledge of compliance requirements to Building Regulations, Part L and other MEP sustainable and Net Zero design requirements.

  1. You will work closely with like-minded individuals on exciting and challenging projects.
  2. Rail Station MEP team consist of more than 70 mechanical, electrical and Public Health Engineers.
  3. You will join a team of professionally qualified, diverse, talented individuals who collaborate to:
  4. Undertake project work from across the design lifecycle, including early concept stage to detail design
  5. Deliver projects for Network Rail, HS2, TfL, Transport for The North, TfGM, Nexus, Local Authorities, Principal Contractors and Private Developers


Reporting to a senior member of our stations team, you will have the opportunity to work on some of the most exciting and challenging multi-disciplinary Rail stations projects around.

What we are looking for you to demonstrate…

  1. Experience of mechanical building services design in the Rail environment, including: heating, cooling, hot and cold water, and ventilation systems
  2. Chartership status with a UK Engineering Institution
  3. Understanding of:
    • the requirements of Network Rail and/or London Underground standards
    • the design of controls/BMS for mechanical systems
    • the design of above ground plumbing and waste systems, the design of rainwater disposal systems, and the design of drainage systems
