About The Opportunity

Hinkley Point C (HPC) is the first new nuclear power station to be built in the UK in over 20 years, HPCs two EPR reactors will be capable of generating 3.26GW of secure, low carbon electricity for 60 years, enough electricity to power around 6 million homes. In addition to the projects ‘clean energy’ benefits, HPC will create thousands of jobs and bring lasting benefits to the UK economy.

We are currently looking for a Mechanical Engineer to work in the Pre-Construction Team at HPC plays a critical role in preparing the site and systems for the complex installation phases of the nuclear power station. Their work ensures that construction activities are well-planned, documented, and compliant with nuclear safety standards before physical installation begins.

The role will be focused on the Mechanical discipline but will be interfaced with other disciplines and several other parties such as the site Contractors (composed of main suppliers and sub-suppliers), Construction teams, Quality teams, Project Management teams, and Design teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver Mechanical construction work packs.
  • Conduct constructability reviews
  • Determine key materials needed to unlock installation phases and coordinate their availability.
  • Request surveys and temporary devices.
  • Ensure all construction documentation aligns with the latest project specifications and nuclear safety requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to streamline procedures and enhance safety and efficiency.

Education, Experience and Skills:

  • Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience in Mechanical system onsite installation
  • Proven track record of progressing from hands-on trade roles into supervisory or site management position will be an advantage
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings / BIM models
  • Knowledge of the construction / installation industry
  • Understanding construction sequencing of mechanical installation.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation including CDM and Nuclear Site License requirements.
  • Ability to influence a diverse range of stakeholders, particularly those in a site environment.
  • Ability to work independently, be pro-active, report on and escalate relevant issues.
