The role

As a Mechanical Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. his position offers an exciting opportunity for a proactive, hands-on engineer passionate about creating innovative solutions for diverse challenges in military land vehicle applications. Step into a technical expert role, where you'll analyse faults, devise practical solutions, and design custom upgrades to support the Babcock Land Defence Support Group (DSG) contract and the Ministry of Defence (MOD).

Day-to-day, you’ll responsible for, but not limited to; speaking with customers and various other functions in the business for requirement capture, producing CAD models and drawings, producing detailed design reports, investigating new manufacturing technologies, providing engineering input to shop floor challenges, conduct fit, form function assessments, being hands on and conducting various studies on different Babcock and customer sites. You'll also:

  • Conduct Defect Investigation and root cause analysis of in-service issues
  • Write Engineering change requests and conduct design change impact assessments.
  • Conduct re-engineering activity consisting of but not limited to: scanning, CAD modelling, material identification, feature analysis, finite element analysis (FEA)
  • Interact with The Authority via multiple routes including direct conversation, meetings, workshops and digital communication
  • Assist in developing task lists for the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) organisation


Please note that this position involves travel/working across a range of internal and customer sites, as a requirement of the role.

This role is full time, 37 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with days in the office/onsite and days working from home. This role also requires regular travel across a range of internal and customer sites on a weekly / monthly basis alongside home working arrangements.

Essential experience of the Mechanical Engineer:

  • Proven experience in a similar role.
  • Thorough understanding of the design process to solve specific problem.


Qualifications for the Mechanical Engineer:

  • You must be educated to degree level with a relevant engineering degree.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintainSecurity Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
