Description


General Dynamics Land Systems is on the look-out for a Mechanical / Electrical Fitter - Apprenticeship to join our Production Team. The successful and inclusive candidate will earn a favourable salary. This is an ideal role for someone who has a proactive and positive mindset and a keen desire to grow professionally.


Joining an established team based at our Merthyr facility, you will work across a range of stakeholders. The scheme will operate over a three year period and will enable the individual to gain an appreciation of Production disciplines within GDUK which are, but not limited to:



  • Manufacturing Assembly covering both Mechanical and Electrical works
  • Production Quality
  • Fabrication and Welding

The apprentice will also get the opportunity to work in multi-disciplined Production teams and gain knowledge and skills in bill of materials (BoM), Lean manufacturing, standard operating procedures, test strategies, production planning, plant facilities, work-package management and customer interaction. During College recess the apprentice would be based at their place of work full-time. There may also be some compulsory attendance at the College for class tests, examinations and presentations.

  • Undertake a range of tasks suited to the current level of training and development
  • Attend college and complete course work on time and to a high standard
  • Produce, maintain and be responsible for content, accuracy and sign off of log books
  • Take on additional responsibility in year three of the Apprenticeship
  • Understand and complete all work related documentation accurately and on time
  • Understand and comply with policies and procedures
  • Carry out work in a safe and diligent manner
  • Comply with all Health & Safety policies and procedures
  • Attend and fully participate regular training and development reviews with line management, mentor and HR representatives
  • To undertake additional duties in line with capabilities as required

  • Excellent IT Skills including Microsoft Package applications
  • Have good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Be organised and able to prioritise their work.

  • Be interested in pursuing a career within General Dynamics UK Ltd.
  • Awareness of IT systems and Networks
  • Have good problem solving and analytical skills.
  • A minimum of A-levels or equivalent. / A minimum of 5 GCSE grades A-C including Maths, English and Science
  • Mature applicants (21+) without A-levels can also be considered on professional experience.
