.An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a forward-thinking engineering team, supporting the delivery of innovative design solutions for new product concepts and the customisation of existing aerospace components.
The successful candidate will play a key part in ensuring mechanical design output is delivered on time, within budget, to the required quality standards, and in full compliance with stringent aerospace regulations and manufacturing requirements.
Primary Responsibilities Contribute to achieving new HOV programme milestones within agreed budgets and timelines

Maintain engineering compliance with established internal procedures

Support continuous improvement across operational areas

Share feedback, learning, and suggestions for product enhancements with the design group

Help increase the application of lessons learned across the organisation

Assist the Lead or Senior Engineer in designing components for company products

Produce required documentation, including mechanical drawings and 3D models

Provide support to production teams by assisting with investigations, troubleshooting, and resolution of build-related issues

Performance Indicators Meeting On Time Delivery (OTD) targets for engineering tasks

Achieving Right First Time (RFT) standards on engineering drawings

Key Challenges Contributing to the design of airworthy products while keeping hardware standardised, remaining innovative, and balancing weight and cost considerations

Operating effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering environment

Ensuring clear communication between departments

Helping maintain a positive culture throughout the organisation

Knowledge, Skills, Education & Experience Knowledge Understanding of manufacturing and design processes

Strong development and analytical problem-solving abilities

Effective communication skills for interacting with various disciplines

Knowledge of composite and metallic materials and their associated manufacturing methods

Familiarity with 2D and 3D CAD tools (training available)

Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Education & Experience Previous experience within a manufacturing environment

Experience working with composite component manufacturing

Progress toward, or completion of, a relevant apprenticeship

Strong motivation for ongoing academic or professional development

Skills and Competencies Able to work independently and plan assigned tasks

Understanding of manufacturing processes and engineering information

Awareness of lean manufacturing principles

Capable of working in a varied and fast-paced environment

Strong communication and interpersonal abilities

Effective problem-solving skills

Understanding of health and safety requirements

Team-oriented mindset with the ability to apply practical solutions creatively

Professional Experience Experience using CAD software and PLM systems

Previous contribution to the completion of defined programmes or projects

Key Working Relationships Internal:
Engineering, Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, Health & Safety, Human Resources, Programme Management
Other Requirements Primary base will be the Cambridge site, with flexibility to travel to other company and supplier locations as needed
