Job Description

As the Lead Mechanical Systems CAD Engineer, you will be responsible for developing mechanical systems design of motors, generators, electrical drives and switchboards for Marine and Power Generation applications. You will be involved at all stages of the system design process from concept to delivery of equipment and systems. You will be working with project managers, technical leads, power systems teams and power electronics teams to deliver world-class power systems solutions.

In this role you will:

  • Integrate mechanical and electrical systems to meet customer requirements.
  • Create detailed equipment 3D models of electrical equipment and 2D layouts using AutoCAD and Pro ENGINEER Creo.
  • Create and manage parts and BoMs in Siemens Teamcenter PLM system.
  • Create and maintain prototype models for testing and validation.
  • Create 3D layout of equipment in test area. Maintain and update the test facility 3D plant layout model
  • Provide clear guidance regarding the mechanical design aspect of projects to other engineering teams and stakeholders.
  • Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing, support the quality function in the resolution of customer issues, and the identification of root causes.
  • Ensure that ‘Design for Manufacture and Assembly’ techniques are implemented in the design process.
  • Apply best engineering practices and follow customer design standards.
  • Participate in technical reviews of designs and provide support for the resolution of problems.
  • On occasion assist with customer and supplier meetings, including site visits.

Essential qualifications:

  • A relevant qualification in mechanical engineering, or significant experience gained in a mechanical design engineering environment.
  • Sole British citizenship with a valid British Passport (“UK Eyes only”).
  • Good technical knowledge of manufacturing processes, mechanical design and testing procedures.
  • Proficiency in the use of Pro E Creo.
  • Proficiency in the use of AutoCAD for the creation of 2D drawings and 3D drawings.
  • Possession of or being capable of obtaining SC level security clearance.

What will make you stand out:

  • Experience in the use of Siemens Teamcenter PLM software for BoM creation & management.
  • Some experience in project management or project planning.
  • Prior experience on active magnetic bearings.

This role involves work for customers who manage critical infrastructure; based on customer requirements it will be necessary to carry out background checks and suitability assessments (UK BPSS clearance OR UK SC clearance) as part of the hiring process.
