HGV Technician/Mechanic

We are seeking an experienced and reliable HGV Technician/Mechanic to join our client. The successful candidate will carry out routine maintenance, repairs, and inspections on a range of heavy goods vehicles to ensure they remain safe, roadworthy, and compliant with all legal and manufacturer standards.


Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Carry out scheduled servicing, maintenance, and repairs on HGVs and trailers.
  • Perform diagnostic checks using the latest tools and software to identify faults.
  • Conduct MOT preparations and safety inspections to DVSA standards.
  • Carry out mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic repairs as required.
  • Replace and repair worn or damaged components (e.g. brakes, clutches, gearboxes, suspensions).
  • Complete all job cards, service sheets, and inspection records accurately.
  • Ensure all vehicles meet legal roadworthiness requirements before release.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised working environment at all times.
  • Support and mentor junior technicians or apprentices when required.
  • Liaise with the Workshop Manager and Parts Department to ensure efficient workflow.

Requirements

  • Graduate in Engineering is recommended.
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (essential).
  • Proven experience as an HGV Technician or Commercial Vehicle Mechanic.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Good mechanical and electrical diagnostic skills.
  • Understanding of modern vehicle systems and fault‑finding techniques.
  • Full UK Driving Licence (HGV Class 1 or 2 licence advantageous).
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety practices in a workshop environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Post‑Graduate Visa Holders with the right to work.
