About the Role

Reporting to the Workshop Foreman, the LGV Mechanic will carry out vehicle maintenance tasks ensuring legal compliance of the fleet, including planned and preventative work as well as unscheduled maintenance. All maintenance works and repairs must be documented on the company’s chosen software for vehicle maintenance records.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair vehicle faults to meet high standards as per DVSA guidelines.
  • Document all works on the company’s maintenance software.
  • Maintain vehicles and equipment promptly to avoid delays.
  • Aim for a 100% MOT first-time pass rate, with a minimum of 95%.
  • Attend roadside or customer premises breakdowns, perform repairs, request further diagnosis, or arrange recovery as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues daily.
  • Minimize vehicle downtime to ensure availability for the Service Delivery Department.
  • Obtain proper authorization for expenditure and ensure parts requests are accurate.
  • Wear or use PPE as required and report defective equipment.
  • Assist in scheduled equipment checks and maintain a clean workshop environment.
  • Report issues to supervisors or management promptly.
  • Perform any other tasks as instructed by senior management in line with the role.

Skills and Experience

  • Experience in an LGV workshop.
  • IRTEC Inspection Technician qualification (or training provided within 6 months).
  • Operator’s License Vehicle Maintenance Compliance.
  • Category C license.
  • Knowledge of transport operations, operator licensing, and DVSA roadworthiness guidelines.
  • Understanding of current legislation and updates.
  • IOSH Working Safely certification is desirable.
  • Knowledge of ADR regulations concerning dangerous goods is desirable.
  • Experience in the waste industry is desirable.
  • Category CE license is desirable.
