Extended Scope Practitioner Physiotherapist – NELFT North East London Foundation Trust.

Our team is expanding, and we are looking for experienced musculoskeletal physiotherapists with advanced practice skills to join our MSK team.

The successful candidates will join our established team of ESPs providing orthopaedic and spinal triage using advanced level assessment and treatment in clinics across the London Boroughs of Havering and Barking and Dagenham. Advanced level skills such as injection therapy and independent prescribing are advantageous. CPD support is provided for relevant courses identified during appraisal.

The team works closely with and supports our MSK physiotherapy service, contributing to in-service training, clinical education, service elevation and service development. There is scope to work from home one day per week, with laptops provided. We have good transport links to both London and Essex.

Main duties of the job

To provide a highly specialist extended scope physiotherapy role and operate as a team member within the Musculoskeletal Clinical Assessment & Treatment Service (MCATS) and Spinal and Musculoskeletal Service (SMAS) for North East London Foundation Trust (NELFT). Duties include assessment, diagnosis and pathway assignation of patients with spinal pain and musculoskeletal conditions.

High Cost Area Supplement - London: This post attracts payment for High-Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum £4,714 to maximum £5,941).

  • Post graduate MSc in MSK Physiotherapy or relevant Masters level education
  • Registration with HCPC
  • Teaching qualification or lecturing experience
  • Injection therapy training
Experience
  • Previous experience working as an MSK ESP
  • Post qualification experience in a range of settings including musculoskeletal outpatient
  • Experience of teaching and presenting
  • Previous experience in a musculoskeletal triage role
  • Previous experience as a band 7 musculoskeletal physiotherapist post holder
  • Worked in an ESP training post
  • Student supervision
Knowledge
  • Full understanding of the role of diagnostics and the relevant use of appropriate tests
  • Ability to undertake further study including diagnostic training, injection therapy and non-medical prescribing and relevant CPD
  • Understanding of the role of other professionals associated with the treatment of spinal pain and musculoskeletal conditions
  • Knowledge of most recent approaches to back pain and related conditions
  • Full understanding of the biopsychosocial model and its implementation
  • An awareness of NHS priorities
