The Position

The Digital Solutions business is blazing a trail to reimagine the renewable energy space by delivering new and innovative solutions built on a solid foundation of data and analytics. Our clients will be able to optimise their assets, drive efficiency and gather new insights with the confidence to make data‑driven decisions.

The Edge software product line was developed by the business unit to enhance the output of renewable energy assets. It consists of software deployed to an industrial computer located at the site (i.e., edge box) and communicates with the control systems of the assets to achieve its objectives.

Upon contract finalization, the Product Delivery Team spearheads the project's hardware procurement, software configuration and deployment, and ensures ongoing support. Reporting to the Senior Manager – Product Delivery, you will configure and deploy the Edge software into operating wind and solar farms. In this role you will coordinate with Site Technicians to have hardware installed and operating, and with OT Engineers to configure the network for remote communications. You will use the available cloud‑based HMI to configure the software according to the project requirements and deploy it to the edge box.

You will have responsibility for numerous projects that may be in different stages of their life cycle and may be across different product lines.

Key Accountabilities

  • Manage and lead technical discussions with internal and external IT/OT specialists to agree networking and cyber security design for edge box installations.
  • Manage completion of product onboarding and site‑specific documentation (networking, IP addresses, site topology).
  • Manage procurement of edge box hardware and logistics.
  • Deploy operating system, product software and site‑specific configuration onto edge boxes.
  • Provide remote support to field technicians, OT Engineers, and Site Management staff during edge box site deployment. May require occasional site visits for edge box deployment. Create and execute/coordinate comprehensive Site Acceptance Tests (SATs) to verify system functionality.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure successful project execution and on‑site integration.
  • Participate in technical discussions to help develop the tools and processes for efficient product deployment.
  • Develop and document technical processes and procedures to ensure knowledge transfer and maintain best practices.
  • Monitor and maintain the software and hardware of the existing customer deployments.

Knowledge

  • Familiarity with Operational Technology (OT) networks and cybersecurity industry practices.
  • Familiarity with IT systems, computer hardware and operating systems such as Linux.
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems.
  • Familiarity with Wind Turbine and/or Solar Inverter Controller networks desirable.
  • Familiarity with industrial automation principles and communication protocols (Modbus, OPC, etc.) is desirable.
  • Knowledge of how wind and solar farms operate desirable.

Skills And Attributes

  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills with a proactive approach to troubleshooting.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills with the abilities.
  • Strong appetite for learning new skills.
  • Ability to drive development of processes and frameworks in an agile environment.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment.

Experience

  • Demonstrable experience in configuring, deploying IT equipment for industrial applications.
  • Proven track record in deploying and troubleshooting controls software in operational environments.
  • Experience of working remotely without close supervision.
  • Experience with SCADA systems deployment, HMI development tools, and edge computing technologies is advantageous.
  • Experience in working with GitHub desirable.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent qualifications.

Edge Computing Recruitment Trends 2025 (UK): What Job Seekers Need To Know About Today’s Hiring Process

Summary: UK edge computing hiring has moved from tool‑lists to capability‑driven assessments that emphasise resilient edge architectures, real‑time data pipelines, secure device fleets, container/Kubernetes at the edge, on‑device/near‑edge ML, and measurable business impact (latency, reliability, cost‑to‑serve). This guide explains what’s changed, what to expect in interviews & how to prepare—especially for edge platform engineers, IoT/OT engineers, edge SREs, embedded/firmware engineers, edge AI/ML engineers, network engineers (5G/private LTE), security specialists & product managers. Who this is for: Edge platform/SRE, IoT solution architects, embedded/firmware developers, edge AI/ML engineers, network engineers (5G/SD‑WAN), security engineers (OT/ICS), data/streaming engineers, site deployment/field engineers & edge product managers targeting roles in the UK.

Why Edge Computing Careers in the UK Are Becoming More Multidisciplinary

For years, computing innovation was focused on the cloud. But as demand for real-time analytics, low-latency processing and secure local data handling grows, edge computing has become the next frontier. From autonomous vehicles to healthcare monitoring devices, retail checkout systems to industrial IoT, edge computing is transforming how data is processed and used in the UK. This shift has also changed what it means to work in the field. Edge computing careers are no longer purely technical. They now require knowledge of law, ethics, psychology, linguistics & design, as professionals must consider regulation, human behaviour, communication & usability alongside engineering. In this article, we’ll explore why UK edge computing careers are becoming more multidisciplinary, how these five fields intersect with edge roles, and what job-seekers & employers need to know to thrive in this evolving landscape.

Edge Computing Team Structures Explained: Who Does What in a Modern Edge Computing Department

Edge computing is expanding rapidly in the UK, driven by demands for low latency, on-site processing, IoT proliferation, autonomous systems, 5G, AI inference on devices, and regulatory pressures for data sovereignty. Businesses in sectors such as telecoms, industrial automation, retail, smart cities, autonomous vehicles, and healthcare are pushing computation and intelligence closer to where data is generated. But to design, build, deploy, secure, and maintain edge computing systems requires more than just hardware or software — it requires structured teams with clearly defined roles and responsibilities. If you’re hiring, or applying for roles via EdgeComputingJobs.co.uk, understanding who does what in a mature edge computing department will help you plan better, show relevance in job applications, and build resilient teams. This article covers the key roles in edge computing teams, how they collaborate through the project lifecycle, what skills and qualifications UK employers usually expect, salary benchmarks, challenges and trends, and best practices for structuring effective edge teams.
