Commercial Vehicle Technician


Location: Lookers Ford Gateshead


Contract: Full‑time, Permanent


Salary: OTE up to £52,480 (Uncapped); £28,000 to £43,000 basic depending on qualifications, plus £3,000 Productivity Bonus and Time Saved Bonus Scheme


Hours: 40 hours Monday‑Friday 8:00am‑5:30pm, plus one Saturday morning every three weeks


We're currently recruiting for various levels of Technician positions to strengthen our growing team. Lookers Ford Gateshead are hiring a Commercial Vehicle Technician / Mechanic to join a workshop that already has 13 experienced technicians and 4 apprentices. You will conduct vehicle health checks with the latest technology, perform vehicle services, and carry out repairs.


Reporting to the Aftersales Manager, you will receive ongoing support and the tools you need for success. We offer excellent career progression and training opportunities, including manufacturer‑accredited schemes and Hybrid & Electric training.


Responsibilities

  • Carry out pre‑delivery inspections on new and used vehicles
  • Conduct checks in line with manufacturers' guidelines
  • Fit additional accessories requested by customers
  • Perform vehicle health checks and report any further work required
  • Check vehicles' lights, tyre pressure, mechanical and electrical components
  • Complete minor repairs on new and used vehicles
  • Understand and carry out basic diagnosis in mechanical and electrical work
  • Conduct vehicle service in accordance with manufacturers' guidelines and customer requests
  • Carry out additional repairs once authorised by the customer
  • Execute warranty repairs per the manufacturer’s guidelines and complete relevant write‑ups
  • Take the customer's vehicle out on a road test to ensure all faults are rectified
  • Complete all relevant paperwork to a high standard

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a minimum NVQ Level 3 in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or equivalent, motor industry experience (brand or non‑brand), and a full and valid UK driving licence. You should be self‑motivated, able to support your team, ambitious, eager to learn, and maintain the highest standards for all vehicles that pass through our service.


Previous brand experience is desirable but not essential; brand accreditation training will be provided. Diagnostic, MOT and EV experience are also desirable but not essential.


We are recruiting for roles such as PDI Technician, Used Car Prep Tech, MOT Tester, Brand Accredited Technician, Service Technician, Maintenance Technician, Senior Technician, Systems Technician, Diagnostic Technician and Master Technician. Salary scales range from £28,000 for a Prep/PDI Tech to £43,000 for an Accredited Master Tech.
