The aim of the role is to provide clinical expertise to the Specialist Medicine therapy team, associated divisions and services to provide excellent care. This role will provide specialist and strategic input to support the delivery of the acute

physiotherapy practices such as acute NIV services, tracheostomy care, CPAP and Optiflow across the inpatient hospital pathway, as well as provide clinical oversight to directorate areas involving Cardiology, Liver, Renal, Infectious Diseases, Endocrinology and A&E Resus. The post will be intricate in supporting the planning acute intervention delivery within these directorates.

The role will collaboratively work alongside Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist to provide clinical leadership and acute skills development to the physiotherapists with Specialist Medicine Therapy team. The post holder will have expert knowledge and skills to be able to deliver QI projects across the Specialist Medicine pathways, develop networked relationships in trust and wider, support the delivery of teaching and training, and work collaboratively with the existing Clinical Lead Therapists at the Royal London Hospital.

Main duties of the job

To act as a clinical specialist for the Specialist Medicine team and provide expert clinical assessment, treatment, prognosis and advice to a highly complex and diverse range of patients within the team.

To act as a highly skilled and expert acute clinical resource to all other staff within the

Specialist Medicine team, directorate and Trust with regard to Respiratory and Specialist medicine services, examples including expert tracheostomy practices, acute and domiciliary NIV, CPAP and Optiflow delivery

To lead the Specialist Medicine team comprising personnel with a wide variety of skills and experience.

To manage the team in trans-disciplinary manner to operationally support the Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist

To provide clinical leadership to the physiotherapists within the Specialist Medicine therapy team

To act as a key individual to develop and enhance networks and pathways in trust and wider related to Specialist Medicine services

To support the planning, coordination, delivery, evaluation of the therapy service for the Specialist Medicine care team in conjunction with the Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist. This may include the management of rotations and overseeing on-call and weekend working for the site in conjunction with other clinical leads.
