Role – Mechanical Project Engineer

Location – Southampton

Purpose of the role: An opportunity has arisen for an Mechanical Project Engineer to join the team at Galliford Try within our Environment Business.

Ideally, you will be based in or around South East England and will have the opportunity to travel across multiple sites/projects in the Region.

You will become a key member of a team successfully delivering schemes of varying sizes predominately to the Water Industry in sewage and clean water. Reporting to the Project Manager, you will work alongside the project delivery team to ensure the design, procurement, financial control and site activities are achieved.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Outline engineering from inception to completion of schemes utilising in-house resources, site installation and construction personnel.
  • Delivery of water Non Infra M&E Projects.
  • Design Management and Liaison.
  • Early site investigation works in coordination with the client, design and project team
  • Production and review of health and safety documentation (risk assessments & method statements / Project management plans).
  • Procurement of materials
  • Attend/undertake factory, site and works testing, commissioning, and client training
  • Attendance and input into internal and client design reviews
  • Working closely with the design team to gather all required information, participate in regular design reviews and Hazard Studies to develop the best solution
  • Involvement with cost to complete / budget reviews with the project delivery teams
  • Negotiating with suppliers and subcontractors
  • Involvement with preparation of subcontract orders
  • Assistance with the evaluation and submission of claims for variation works
  • Liaison with site manager and site teams to ensure work is completed to programme, budget, and quality
  • Developing Inspection and Test Plans and ensuring they are completed as the scheme progresses
  • Innovation whilst maintaining compliance to current standards
  • Preparation & management of project programmes
  • Proactive approach to maintaining high standards of Health & Safety performance
  • To work with the team to develop and close out all contract documentation such as, “As built” drawings, Commissioning Manuals and Operation and Maintenance Manuals

About You:

  • An industry applicable Mechanical ONC/HNC/B.Eng or NVQ equivalent
  • Proven experience within the Water Industry
  • Experience Working Non Infra Projects of Varying Sizes.
  • DESEAR experience desirable but not essential.
  • Commercial and contractual awareness
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft packages including Project
  • Desire to understand and promote the Company purpose, vision, values and culture
  • Trustworthy and ethical approach, exercising discretion where required
  • Organised, structured and professional, with a passion for excellence
  • Flexibility, resilience and the ability to influence and build relationships at all levels
  • Excellent communication skills (email/phone/face to face)
  • Commitment to the provision of excellent customer service
  • Proven influencing and negotiation skills to both internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience of leading and managing functions where required
