My client is a specialist manufacturer looking for a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join their team in Bristol on a permanent basis.


The role will involve designing, testing, and developing bespoke products, and managing a small team.


Job Details

Location: Bristol
Term: Permanent
Salary: GBP 50,000 – GBP 60,000 (dependent on experience)


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and project‑manage the design, prototyping, development, testing, and introduction of new products.
  • Manage 4–6 direct reports.
  • Use 3D CAD for concept design and create technical drawings.
  • Successfully deliver projects on time and on budget.
  • Design and develop new products.
  • Maintain technical documentation as required.
  • Liaise with manufacturing providers.
  • Participate in final assembly of products.
  • Create required documentation for design, project reports, and plans.
  • Update 3D models and drawings.
  • Input parts into the MRP system and create BOMs.
  • Check drawings for sign‑off.
  • Work in a small, multidisciplinary team.

Key Qualifications

  • Self‑starter with strong leadership skills and the ability to think outside the box and own projects.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a similar Mechanical Design/Testing/Product Development position.
  • Experience designing bespoke products from scratch.
  • Analytical mind and good problem‑solving skills.
  • Degree or equivalent (HNC, HND, BTEC, NVQ) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD software such as Inventor, SolidWorks, Creo, etc.
  • Knowledge of a variety of materials and manufacturing processes (sheet metal, machining, injection moulded plastics, etc.).
  • Strong leadership and team‑management skills.
  • Good theoretical mechanical engineering knowledge of core principles and tight tolerances.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work well individually and as part of a team.
