Based at our Warrington depot, the Mechanical Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring our equipment is safe, reliable and ready for customers. You will carry out mechanical repairs, servicing, testing and assembly across our wide range of hire products including power tools, lifting equipment, generators, and light plant. Your work directly supports customer satisfaction, operational efficiency and the overall success of the depot.
About the Role What You Will Be Doing As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for maintaining, repairing and inspecting Speedys extensive fleet of equipment. This includes:
Key Responsibilities Diagnose mechanical faults across a wide range of hire equipment and carry out effective repairs.

Conduct routine servicing and preventative maintenance , ensuring equipment is always safe, compliant and ready for hire.

Assemble and configure new equipment , completing pre-delivery inspections and testing before items enter the fleet.

Accurately record all repair work , servicing activities and parts usage using Speedys internal systems.

Carry out safety checks , LOLER inspections (if certified) and general equipment assessments to meet regulatory and industry standards.

Prioritise workload effectively , ensuring urgent repairs are completed promptly to support customer demand.

Maintain a clean, organised and safe workshop environment , following all health and safety policies.

Advise depot colleagues and customers on safe operation, common issues, and correct maintenance of equipment.

Collaborate closely with coordinators and depot teams to keep equipment availability high and support operational flow.

Champion Speedys ESG Strategy Decade to Deliver , ensuring sustainability and safety are embedded in daily practice.

What You Need Previous mechanical engineering experience (hire industry experience highly desirable)

Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills

Good computer literacy, particularly Microsoft Office

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

Ability to work under pressure and manage priorities

Team-oriented approach with a flexible, positive attitude

Commitment to safety, compliance and quality standards

Ability to support the delivery of our ESG Strategy Decade to Deliver
